Can Solar & Battery Storage future proof your home or business? – The answer is simply YES
Ever Since the launch of the Feed In Tariff Scheme, the Solar PV Industry has expanded. The main driver of this was the long term and quick financial investment offered by the scheme. The FIT Scheme Unfortunately came to an end in March 2019 . . . but not all is lost.
With reductions in the tariffs and quarterly reviews, the installation costs and costs for materials have also reduced dramatically. There is always a downside though, the wholesale costs of electricity have rocketed with an average annual increase of over 6%. This has made it more important than ever for homeowners and businesses to become more self sufficient and sustainable.
So how does it work?
Lets keep it simple . . .
Solar panels take energy from the sun and convert it into electricity. This electricity is connected to your existing supply meaning that it becomes available for consumption in your property. If the generated electricity isn’t used instantly it exports to the grid. If the generated electricity is being used and more is required you will import the rest from the grid as normal. You will always use the generated electricity before importing from the grid.
This leads to really significant savings on your bills.
A standard installation does not have the capacity to store generated electricity. That’s where Battery Storage can be added to maximise self-consumption of the free generated electricity – why would you want to waste what you have generated?
Are Batteries worth it?
Quick answer . . . MOST DEFINATELY!!!
Battery storage capabilities are improving at a rapid rate. If you are a really high consumer of electricity and are subject to TRIAD and TNUoS charges, it’s not even a requirement to have Solar PV Installed. We work with companies that use large containerised battery systems to import and store electricity at off-peak times then release it at peak times. This enables them to purchase cheap electricity and therefore save money on bills and reduce charges for peak time consumption.
How much storage and whether to have it at all completely depends on circumstance. We have customers want to maximise their Solar PV capacity, others just want enough to make a dint in their energy bills. Using our Power Mapping service, we can as accurately as is possible, estimate the optimum level of PV and Storage required for an installation giving our customers a bespoke designed system that suits their needs.
